A Greater Temper plan in Diablo IV can stall when a promising upgrade arrives before the materials are ready. Sorting Diablo IV Items with a clear crafting target in mind helps turn an overloaded inventory into a practical resource plan. Trash for Treasure may support that process, but its value depends on the gear being salvaged and the resource your next upgrade actually needs.

Set the Crafting Target First

Before committing Boon points, identify the pieces most likely to improve the build. A main weapon often deserves early attention, while important rings or defensive pieces can take priority when they address a more immediate weakness. The right order depends on what your character already wears, not simply on the item slot.

Check your Obducite and the other requirements for the intended craft before spending anything. A modest improvement on a temporary piece may not justify using resources needed for a stronger candidate. This matters most when you expect to replace several slots soon and cannot afford repeated attempts.

Protect Promising Gear From Salvage

Material planning starts with an inventory review, not a trip straight to the blacksmith. Examine ancestral pieces that could support your build before treating the rest as salvage. A useful base can be worth keeping even if it is not ready to equip immediately, especially when a future temper could make it fit your priorities.

On the other hand, keeping every rare item creates its own cost: more time spent sorting and less room for the next haul. Separate genuine candidates from pieces with little practical value to your build, then salvage the remainder. Check the Boon description for the item tiers it affects rather than assuming every piece benefits.

Measure the Material Route

A busy Helltide or Pit session provides a useful setting for judging whether the salvage route fits your routine. Collect a normal haul, review it carefully, and salvage the unwanted items during the same session. Note your material totals before and after so the result is easier to interpret.

Record your Obducite total before beginning the farming session.
Complete a farming block that matches your usual pace and group size.
Set aside any equipment worth a closer inspection before salvaging.
Compare the remaining material gap with the requirements of your next planned craft.

This check shows progress toward your goal, not a precise measurement of the Boon's effect. Drop quality and the amount of gear collected can vary between sessions, so avoid drawing a firm conclusion from one haul. A session focused on unique items may also leave less ordinary gear to salvage than a broader farming run.

Keep Gold and Scrolls Ready

Materials are only one part of the decision. If gold is too low to pay for crafting and repairs, a gold-focused option such as Scent of Gold may be more useful for the moment. That choice can delay material gathering, but it prevents a full stock of supplies from sitting unused while you rebuild your funds.

Check the scroll requirement for your intended Greater Temper before setting aside an evening for crafting. If a required scroll is missing, shift attention toward obtaining it instead of continuing to collect materials without a clear target. Keep a reserve for repairs and unsuccessful rolls when deciding how much gold is available to spend.

Once the planned craft is funded, review shared seasonal resources before another character uses them. Record the amount spent and reassess the next upgrade rather than automatically repeating the same farming routine. If the bottleneck has changed, adjust your route; better d4 gear is only useful when you can support the next meaningful improvement.
